Week 3 Discussion

The insperation video was really good. Insperation looked like a good learning tool. To describe it, it was a program to help people with writting. It allowed yo to use charts and flow graphs and notes to prepare for writting. I think that it would help if you had writters block you could just gt on insperation and start goofing around just throwing ideas out thee and using pictures and then it might bring stuff to your mind to write about.

When writting a good paper you need multiple drafts and feedback in order to reach full potential. And as a teacher you will be on a time scale where you will not have time for each student to write rough drafts and read and instruct each one. Peer to peer revision is one way to make up for being just one teacher with many students and not much time. Students can read and give feed back on paper. In technology there is a program called SWoRD that is online where students can turn in writting. The good things about this program are that it requires students to turn in multiple drafts booth of which are read and reviewed. Other people are reading and giving a written feedback of what they think. Also this process is monitered so that the teacher can set a schedule for paper to be returned.

  1. Hello Dylan, I am Tamora Jones my Major is English/Teacher certification, that being said I have written an insurmountable amount of papers and I wish I had had something like this available to me. I am a fan of rough drafts, I practice it myself and even critique my own work even after the final draft has been done. Getting feedback is a great thing you can often get a new insight viewing another persons opinions or possibly take your orignal thought into a whole new prospective. As for the blogging, like you I'm not real comfortable with it but I like this class it is allowing us to explore and learn new things that we possibly would not had venture to. On a more personal note, Congradulations to you and your wife, may your miracle be blessed with all the love it can. I have five and each one is truly a blessing not to mention a challenge, I look forward to conversing with you in class.

  2. I just want to piggy back off of both of you guys. I really do think that the Inspiration program would be a great and very effective way to allow students to organize their thoughts in a new way. Sure they could use paper to do this, but that gets boring. Technology I think is very exciting and motivating and captivating for youths. So I think that it is a new more interesting way for students to not just think and visualize their brainstorming thoughts on paper but to actually see it on screen. It is easier and more time effecient because students would not have to draw the map concepts all they would have to do is to pick the tool they need and write in their answers. So I think that it is very beneficial to use and implement the inspiration program in the classroom.

  3. Wow. SWoRD sounds like a great online resource for students. I've never heard of it. I'm sure that for students who might feel self-concious about their writing would feel a lot more comfortable being reviewed by someone that they won't be seeing on a daily basis. Also, people will probably be more constructive online since they don't fear their peers reactions to their critisism. Then, the students themselves can evaluate their comments and decide whether they are relavent and can be incorporated into their writing.
